Carson Nature Center and South Platte Park

Southwest Metro Water and Sanitation District is increasing the capacity on their sewer line that runs through South Platte Park to accommodate new residences south of Mineral Avenue. This work will require temporary SOFT SURFACE detours of the Mary Carter Greenway Trail, approximately 1/10th of a mile each.

Starting in early January, access north of the Carson Nature Center Roundabout will follow a short crusher-fines detour along the river reconnecting to the trail to the south, or to the Nature Center Trailhead. The closure may last a week to 10 days.

Once that phase is complete, traffic to and from the area south of the roundabout will follow a similar detour as the sewer line crosses the Mary Carter Greenway Trail. The second detour should last a week to 10 days. It is not anticipated that access from the Nature Center Trailhead or through-traffic on the Mary Carter will be closed. The surface of this detour may be soft in snowy conditions but will have partial snow removal. Cyclists and rollerbladers should walk or ride with caution during this detour, and all trail users should stay alert for sharing a narrowed path for the short term.
