Project Background and Next Steps

In March 2025, South Suburban kicked off the community engagement for this project by hosting a community meeting with North Littleton Promise, an organization that helps connect Littleton's immigrant community with local leaders. During this meeting, Staff quickly learned that the community has a strong need for a universally inclusive playground at Cornerstone Park. Based on this feedback, the team shifted the project's focus to deliver the best possible play experience for all children. The project team engaged LuBird's Light Foundation, an organization aimed at bringing universally inclusive playgrounds to the Denver metro area. The project team conducted a playground tour with LuBird's Light Foundation to observe barriers and identify amenities that make a difference in inclusive play. The team saw examples of barriers to play in real-time, and is utilizing that feedback as part of the larger design process. The team also hosted two focus group meetings, engaging with the project consultant to balance play value and accessibility. These actions are just the beginning of ensuring the design of the new playground at Cornerstone Park promotes a meaningful experience for children of all abilities.
