Many TrailMark residents requested a swimming pool and community center in the 2022 and 2023 surveys. Why did South Suburban staff not include this in the recommendation to the Board of Directors?

The TrailMark Metro District presented a bond initiative in 2009 for a community center with potential for a swimming pool. The majority of TrailMark voters did not support funding the proposed project. For more information visit trailmark.org/2009-pool--community-center-evaluation.html.

In 2016, the South Suburban Board of Directors entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement with Foothills Park and Recreation District allowing TrailMark residents to use the Foothills facilities at the resident rate, including the nearby Deer Creek Pool (8637 S. Garrison Street, Littleton, CO 80128). South Suburban reimburses Foothills the difference between the resident and non-resident rate.

In 2018, South Suburban hired Counselman-Hunsaker to collect data and prepare a district-wide Aquatics Master Plan. The master plan included recommendations to update three existing pools (Harlow, Holly and Franklin Pools), which were completed in 2021, but does not include a recommendation to construct additional outdoor pools within the District.

Many TrailMark residents requested water play be added to the park system. Why did South Suburban staff not include this in the recommendation to the Board of Directors?

The nearby Deer Creek Pool, which TrailMark residents can access at Foothills Park and Recreation District’s resident rate, includes spray features and other water play opportunities.

The local reservoirs are owned and managed by the TrailMark Metro District. Fairview Reservoir #1, the largest reservoir surrounded by TrailMark Park, can be enjoyed by residents for views and shore use only (no boating, swimming, or skating).

Why is South Suburban staff only recommending a bike park in the southeast corner of TrailMark Park? Why are other locations not being proposed?

The southeast corner of TrailMark Park between the fire station and Hildebrand Ranch Park is the only location that is not adjacent to homes. While this park was not identified as a location highly desirable by TrailMark residents for new recreational improvements, it is the area that would be least objectional to homeowners.

If the current survey shows community support for a bike park or any other new recreational improvements, what are the next steps?

Should the current survey indicate new recreational amenities are desired by the community, South Suburban will develop a Conceptual Site Plan and initiate a public planning process. This includes one or more neighborhood meetings, presentations to the South Suburban Board of Directors meeting where public comment will be taken, and a public presentation to the Littleton City Council. Only if a Final Site Plan is approved would detailed design work and construction occur.
