The Bear Creek Trail Study, completed in December 2023, identified critical improvements for a 1.5-mile segment of trail within the South Suburban in Sheridan. This trail connects the Bear Creek Trail to the Mary Carter Greenway and serves thousands of users monthly for recreation, commuting, and exercise.
The study highlighted aging infrastructure, limited access, and a lack of amenities, especially near Federal Boulevard. The trail segment, originally built in 1984, has never been fully reconstructed.
A new trailhead at 3600 S. Federal Boulevard is a key step in enhancing the trail experience. The site, formerly occupied by a restaurant, has been cleared and offers 1.4 acres for development. The trailhead will improve access, safety, and amenities for the surrounding community.
