The Mary Carter Greenway is one of the busiest regional multi-trails in the metro area with over 300,000 recorded trail users annually within South Platte Park. Spanning 8.25 miles from C-470 to Hamilton Place, the trail crosses through the cities of Littleton, Englewood, and Sheridan. In the fall of 2022, South Suburban and Arapahoe County Open Spaces kicked off a study to identify potential improvements to enhance access and experience for trail users. The completed study can be found below in the news feed. This study identified the Mineral Avenue Bridge Realignment and the South Platte Park East Trail Bridge Replacements as priority projects. The second phase of the Mary Carter Greenway Trail Study will take these select projects through the design process to produce construction drawings. City of Littleton and District staff met with the design consultant on February 24 to evaluate alternative alignments for a new pedestrian bridge near Mineral Avenue.The design and planning team selected two bridge alignments to further refine along with potential trail connections to the bridge. The design consultant will create corresponding cost estimates for the selected bridge alignments to help inform a final decision. The design consultant will complete cost estimates in March.

Staff met with the design consultant and City of Littleton on December 17 to discuss initial concepts for the pedestrian bridge across the South Platte near Mineral Avenue. The design consultant will use the feedback to develop multiple schematic drawings of the bridge and trail intersections.

Survey data collection along the southern end of the greenway took place in early September. Preliminary design including floodplain analysis and structural layout is forthcoming.

South Suburban staff signed a contractwith Felsburg Holt & Ullevigfor the redesign of the pedestrian bridge across the South Platte near Mineral Avenue as well as the development of construction drawings for the replacement of a pedestrian bridge and boardwalk in South Platte Park. Design development is anticipated to take place through May 2025.
