Sunset Park Improvement Project
South Suburban is excited to announce the Sunset Park Improvement Project! This project will bring upgraded playgrounds for ages 2-5 and 5-12, a new shade structure, and upgraded site amenities, including bike racks, picnic tables, and benches. Additionally, we’ll be installing new ADA-compliant walkways to ensure a more accessible park for all.
As we plan these improvements, we’re carefully considering existing site constraints, such as the overhead electric lines and the Aurora Water line easement.

South Suburban is planning updates for Sunset Park. The proposed improvements include:
- Adding a new trail connection at E Maplewood Avenue
- Relocating the basketball court and converting it to a post-tension slab
- Addressing accessibility issues throughout the site
- Reconfiguring the shelter and playground layout to accommodate more shade and seating
- Installing new playground equipment for children ages 2-5 and 5-12 and new site furnishings
