Sweetwater Park Final Site Plan Approved
We are excited to share that the Sweetwater Park Final Site Plan has been approved by the South Suburban Board of Directors.
The approved plan reflects extensive community engagement, technical analysis, and collaboration with project partners. Throughout the planning process, residents helped shape a vision centered on four key themes: Enhance Recreation, Update Play Features, Support Community, and View & Protect Nature.

The final plan includes:
- An updated playground and new swing grove
- Fitness and recreation amenities
- Improved trail connections and a new ½-mile loop trail
- Regional trail and bridge improvements
- Trailhead amenities and parking
- A youth wheels playground
- A small neighborhood-scale off-leash dog area
- Habitat preservation and nature-focused trail experiences
- Enhanced gathering spaces and community amenities
The design balances community priorities with environmental stewardship, long-term maintenance considerations, operational feasibility, and protection of the Willow Creek corridor.
Thank you to everyone who participated in surveys, public meetings, pop-up events, and project reviews. Your feedback played a critical role in shaping the final plan.
The approved site plan establishes a long-term vision for Sweetwater Park that will expand recreation opportunities, improve accessibility and connectivity, protect natural resources, and serve the community for generations to come.
