Exciting improvements are coming to Sweetwater Park! South Suburban is launching a planning and design project to enhance this beloved community space, and we want to keep you informed every step of the way.

Sweetwater Park, a nearly 32-acre park located along the Willow Creek Regional Trail in Lone Tree, has been a valued community asset since 1987. The park features walking trails, open space, sports fields, a playground, a basketball court, a pavilion, and picnic areas.

In 2022, Douglas County acquired the northern parcel of the park, originally designated for a future school site, and deeded it to South Suburban. This land was officially annexed into the City of Lone Tree in June 2023 and re-platted as part of the unified Sweetwater Park.

South Suburban is currently in the process of selecting a qualified landscape architecture firm to lead the design, planning, and community engagement efforts. The project will focus on:

    • Replacing playground equipment
    • Upgrading the shade pavilion and basketball court
    • Enhancing site amenities
    • Exploring the addition of an off-leash dog park

The new park design will integrate with existing features and reflect the needs and desires of the community.

In summer 2025, the Mile High Flood District will begin a stream assessment of Willow Creek. This study will align with long-term goals for Sweetwater Park and the Willow Creek Corridor, including potential improvements to creek access and land management strategies.

Community input will be a vital part of this project. Stay tuned for opportunities to share your ideas and help shape the future of Sweetwater Park! Use the Subscribe tool on this page to sign up for project updates and community engagement alerts!
