South Suburban is excited to announce that we will be improving the playground area with new modern-themed playground equipment and rubberized safety surfacing! Additional improvements will include a post-tension basketball court with new goals, new benches, upgraded ADA parking spaces, and new concrete walks. The existing shade pavilion, san-o-let enclosure, security light, tables, and drinking fountain will remain, as they were part of an improvement project in 2015. This project is anticipated to be complete in December 2023. Come check it out when the project is complete!

    Sod installation at Abbott Park has been completed. While the sod roots are becoming established, we kindly ask you to please keep off the sod. The sod establishment period lasts around typically lasts two weeks, where it will be watered extensively. After the establishment period is over, the sod will return to a normal watering program.

    The park irrigation system will be turned on this month allowing for the installation of new sod adjacent to the playground area. This work is scheduled to take place this month.

    Two new solar powered shelter lights have been installed. These lights are different than the previous ones and do not require an electrical cabinet. Parks is going to monitor the functionality of the lights for a few weeks prior to removing the cabinet pad and conduit at the shelter column base.

    While there are a handful of items that need to be addressed we are excited to announce that the park is now open. Due to the time the project was completed sod will be installed in spring of 2024. Following the installation of sod, a Park Dedication event will be held by South Suburban.
