The Bear Creek Trail Study, completed in December 2023, identified critical improvements for a 1.5-mile segment of trail within the South Suburban in Sheridan. This trail connects the Bear Creek Trail to the Mary Carter Greenway and serves thousands of users monthly for recreation, commuting, and exercise.

The study highlighted aging infrastructure, limited access, and a lack of amenities, especially near Federal Boulevard. The trail segment, originally built in 1984, has never been fully reconstructed.

A new trailhead at 3600 S. Federal Boulevard is a key step in enhancing the trail experience. The site, formerly occupied by a restaurant, has been cleared and offers 1.4 acres for development. The trailhead will improve access, safety, and amenities for the surrounding community.

Building on the successful outreach conducted during the Bear Creek Trail Study, our team is committed to ensuring that community voices continue to shape the trailhead vision. The original study included three phases of engagement, identifying challenges, refining concepts, and validating recommendations and gathered valuable input on desired amenities.

Our team, in partnership with City of Sheridan, Groundwork Denver and Livable Cities Studio, is committed to a collaborative, inclusive process that builds on the successful outreach conducted during the Bear Creek Trail Study.

We have exciting and meaningful community engagement planned to ensure the Bear Creek Trailhead reflects the needs and values of Sheridan residents. Several engagement touchpoints are scheduled between July and December 2025, aligning with key phases of the design process.

Throughout this process, we’ll use a mix of in-person and virtual strategies, including pop-up events, online surveys, and direct mail, to ensure broad and inclusive participation. Our team will also support the creation of outreach materials like flyers, e-blasts, and yard signs to keep the community informed and involved.

Together with Groundwork Denver, we’re committed to a collaborative, transparent process that reflects the diversity and character of City of Sheridan.
