Additional site amenities to be installed include a bench, landscape boulders, and birdhouses along the High Line Canal Trail. A portion of the High Line Canal Trail between S. Gallup Street and the Lee Gulch Trail is closed during construction and there will be no trail access from S. Elati Street or the intersection of W. Dry Creek Road and S. Huron Place.

On Wednesday, January 24, 2024 the Elati Pedestrian Bridge Replacement project was completed and the High Line Canal Trail reopened to trail users and the public. The contractor will be on-site for a few hours over the next week or two to complete some very minor details, but that work will not interfere with public use of the trail. The new amenities adjacent to the bridge include a bench and boulder rest area just off the trail and a row of birdhouses. We look forward to some of our local bird species taking up residence near the Elati Bridge this Spring.

The winding trail connection from the Preserve at Southbridge neighborhood to the bridge has been completed and the landscape areas restored. The old trail connection was cracked, being undercut by storm drainage running through the landscape areas and was difficult for trail users to navigate safely. The new concrete was poured a few weeks ago and will provide a much improved approach to the south end of the new bridge for the neighborhood.

The new amenity area just east of the bridge is taking shape. The natural boulder and paving stone feature, along with a bench, will provide a small off-trail rest area at this location for trail users.

On the morning of Wednesday, December 13, the new bridge was delivered to the site and craned into place. On Thursday, December 14, the bridge deck concrete was poured. The contractor will be working over the next two weeks to pour all the additional concrete flatwork for the landings on either side of the bridge, as well as the trail connection south of the bridge into the Preserve at Southbridge neighborhood. Boulders for the amenity area are being delivered to the site this week and their placement will wrap up any grading and site work left at the site. We anticipate the trail to reopen in mid-January if the weather continues to cooperate for the next few weeks.

The abutment caissons were drilled and poured just before the Thanksgiving Holiday on November 16th, and the remainder of the abutments formed and poured Thursday November 30th. The temporary land bridge in the canal is in the process of being removed so the banks of the canal can be restored. The concrete has reached full strength and the bridge is due to be delivered to the site and placed on the abutments on Wednesday, December 13th. We are on track for the project to be complete at the end of January.
